Ahh, for ham and hell…someone must’ve slipped me a mickey.

I just got completely sucked in and overcome by that farging show ‘Providence’ (somebody tell me the rule here….Strunk and White are in Margaritaville; do you italicize titles of television shows? do you put them in quotation marks, whaaat? protocol! tech support!). I mean really….Zorro kissing Bo Peep and a Russian painter much younger Russian painter falling for the older woman, Doc Whatserface.

Did I mention that the painter has a large tumor and has to choose either his life or his eyesight? Did I mention that he’s not been outside his home for most of his life for fear of deportation?

That motherfucker tugged at my uterus. No lie.

    Italicize it!

  2. According to the Associated Press Stylebook, the New York Times Manual of Style and Usage, and The Chicago Manual of Style, quotation marks should be used for television and film titles. According to Turabian’s A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations, such titles should be italicized, but the titles of individual episodes of a TV show should be in quotes. My tendency would be (and in my work, must be) to follow the first three, as they are professional, rather than student, standards. But this is a blog, fer cryin’ out loud, so you just pick whichever way suits your fancy, m’dear!

  3. Oh, and in HTML, remember to close your italic tags, wherever you happen to use them. A little rule I obviously have some trouble with!

If that show were true to Providence, he’d have been offered at least five unholy ways to cure that tumor by the end of it.
